Copy Message Link Personal Outlook add-in

A faster way to share the message you’re reading

Copy a stable link to the email you’re reading.

Install this add-in once in Outlook on the web. It reads the current message ID from Outlook and creates a direct message link that works on web and mobile.

This is a personal, self-hosted add-in. It does not store email content or send data to this site.

Install in Outlook on the web

Add it to your mailbox

  1. Download the manifest.xml file using the button above.
  2. Open the Add-Ins for Outlook installer. Outlook may show /mail/ in the address bar after loading; the add-ins window should open over the mailbox after a few seconds.
  3. At the bottom, choose Add a custom add-in → Add from file.
  4. Select the downloaded manifest and accept the installation prompts.
2

Use it on the web

Copy the message link

Open an email in read mode, then choose Copy message link from the message toolbar or the … menu. The add-in creates the direct Outlook message link, copies it, and shows a brief confirmation.

3

Use it on mobile

Same mailbox, no second install

Sign in to Outlook mobile with the same account. Open an email, tap …, and choose Copy message link.

If installation is rejected

“Sideloading rejected by Exchange”

This usually means your Microsoft 365 tenant has disabled personal custom add-ins. Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to enable custom add-ins for your mailbox.
